Assignment 30A - Final Reflection

Image
1) Read through your posts from this semester. Recall all of the experiences you've had a long the way -- the highs, the lows -- the fun moments, and the moments of drudgery, and even the moments of dread. The beginning of this class, and just looking at all of the assignments we were going to have to do, along with the peer reviews, was a big moment of dread for me. But I soon realized that everyone in this class was probably experiencing the same dread as me so I thought, "hey, we are all in this together." 2) What sticks out to you as the most formative experience? The experience that you'll remember years later? What was your most joyous experience? What experience are you most proud of yourself for accomplishing? The most formative experience was when I had just thought of my business idea and submitted it and got the peer review back saying that they liked my idea. I was so ready for someone to shoot it down as a bad idea or say that they had heard of...

Assignment 29A - Venture Conecpt No.2

1. Venture Concept Opportunity ·     The people with my need falls into two categories: students and universities. I believe that students have a need for my product because they are stressed and are lacking skills, they need to be fully independent and thrive on their own when they live away from home at a university. I also believe the universities are apart of my customer base because they will be the ones buying the curriculum and implementing it within their coursework. ·    The need for the students lies within my research that most freshmen have a hard time adjusting from living at home and only having to focus on school/work and not on the tasks like grocery shopping or banking, the things most parents/guardians do for kids until they leave for college. This lack of skill can overwhelm students and divert their focus from studying and enjoying college and turn it to the tasks that shouldn’t have that much stress.  ·     The ...

Assignment 28A - Your Exit Strategy

1) Identify the exit strategy you plan to make.  I plan to sell my company as my exit strategy. I would plan on selling it to someone who has more knowledge in the education field who can take my business to the next level that simply cannot. I believe I have done/contributed all I possibly could and would love to pass it to someone who shares the same passion for it that I do.  2) Why have you selected this particular exit strategy? Being practical, I am still a student in school so I would like to sell it to someone who could dedicate the time and energy it would take to take my business to the next level. I do have faith that if I put my 100% time and energy into the company I could take it far but I prioritize being a student so I would take the profit from selling the company and apply it all into my education, so possibly one day I would have the adequate knowledge to create a new business venture.  3) How do you think your exit strategy has influence...

Assignment 27A - Reading Reflection No.3

Chosen book: How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big, Scott Adams  1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? This book was basically a memoir about the author, Scott Adams, life and how he had many failed attempts in life. He had failed startups and patents that were useless but he eventually started his Dilbert office cartoons that showed his failures to the world. In the book, he shares his personal story and what he learned through all of his failures. He writes about how he kept himself motivated and healthy as well as how he remained positive while experiencing failure after failure.  2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? This class has taught me a lot about finding what I am good at and capitalizing on it. Especially when we had to analyze what our "secret sauce" was. There was a quote from the book that I believe directly goes with that, it goes " A great strategy for ...

Assignment 26A - Celebrating Failure

T ell us about a time this past semester that you failed -- whether in this class or outside of this class. Don't spare any details! It'd be even better if there was something you tried several times this semester, and failed each time.   My accounting class this semester has proved to be a challenge this semester. I am not an accounting major and my brain does not think that way naturally. And the class solely online proving to be harder to ask the professor questions and get advice from peers. The first failure I had in this class was the first exam, I was not prepared and I did not know how to study for this class. So after this exam, I utilized study edge to its full extent after the exam. I also utilized the textbook a lot after the first exam. And then I took the second exam and I got the same exact score, I was crushed. I had changed my study strategy basically completely so I figured I would have at least gotten a better score. I have not taken the third exam yet but...

Assignment 25A - What's Next?

Existing Market Step 1: What I think is next For my next venture, I see myself developing this product to its fullest capacity and then selling it to someone so I have time to start a new venture. I would like to continue on with the idea of helping students with their mental health. I would love to establish an online chat room that would serve as a place for students to vent about their struggles with school, receive advice from their peers, and also give advice and encouragement. It would be a positive platform that could hopefully curb the negative effects social media is having on students in recent years. My market would still be college students, but it wouldn't just be limited to first years, it could be open to all levels, undergraduate and graduate students.  Step 2: Interviews For my interviews, I took advantage of the LLC I am living in and interviewed three freshmen who were studying in the Beaty Commons. I interviewed them separately so to not discredit th...

Assignment 23A - Your Ventures Unfair Advantage

1. Work experience: I have worked in sales so I know how to sell a product and highlight its features, which will help when I go to sell my product to universities.  Valuable: Yes I believe the ability to sell is a valuable one for an entrepreneur. Rare: It is somewhat rare. A lot of students have work experience but not all have experience specifically in sales.  Imitatable: the experience of working in sales can be imitated but not the exact experience I had because it was specific to me.  Non-substitutable: I could hire someone who has had experience or even went to school for selling/marketing.  2. Social capital: I am in a sorority at UF, so I have connections with students who could benefit from my curriculum. Valuable: Yes I believe having access to my target demographic is valuable. Rare: At UF in particular, being in a sorority is not rare at all, but there are still people who are not apart of one, but they are apart of other organizat...
