Assignment 8A - Solving the Problem

1. Selected Opportunity The opportunity I have identified is one to offer classes at either the university or high school level that teach curriculum pertaining to relevant life skills including politics, finances, and personal health and wellness.  2. Product or Service The service would be classes for freshmen in college or all ages as an elective in high school that would be geared towards teaching students a variety of life skills that are not currently taught in the academic classes. Some course ideas would be finances, which would give an intro to loans, debt, taxes, jobs, checking and savings accounts, and how to make a budget for yourself. Another course would be health and wellness, which would give an overview on how to not abuse common medicines, how to exercise for your body type, what kind of foods are best for certain diets, and basic cooking skills. The last idea for a course, would be one about politics, ranging from how elections work, what it means to vote,...

Assignment 7A - Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

1. The Opportunity I believe there is an opportunity for UF to add classes that teach young adults about life skills like learning how to do taxes, balance a check book, what stocks are and also along the lines of how to maintain a healthy diet, how to exercise for your body type, etc.. 2. The Opportunity Broken Down The who : University of Florida students The what: Not having classes that teach newly independent students life skills ranging from money to health. The why: Because adding more classes to the course work has a lot of logistical issues ranging from what credit the class would satisfy, hiring teachers, and making the coursework and lessons.  3. The Hypothesis The who: Other college students could benefit from courses like this, even some high schools could implement classes like this to prepare the students before college.  The what: Not every student will have the need because either they know the information because they were exposed to the inf...

Assignment 6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends

Economic Trend: Increasingly diverse payment options are coming https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/325070 Where you found it:  I found this article on Entrepreneur.com What Leads you to believe that this information suggests an opportunity exists? The information in this article highlights the consumers want for alternative and more flexible banking models and payment methods. It gives examples like bitcoin and blockchain once being seemingly in every other news headline. But the main concerns of consumers is the speed and security of new ways of digital shopping.  Who do you think is most likely to be the customer with this opportunity? Any consumer who wants a faster way to spend money will be the ones to try out the new methods first but eventually, the new practices will become standardized and everyone will be using it.  I s the opportunity relatively easy or relatively difficult to exploit, and why do you think so? I think the opportunity is relat...

Assignment 5A - Identifying Local Opportunities

1) "Citrus greening affecting dooryard citrus in Northeast Florida" by Larry Figart  https://www.jacksonville.com/entertainmentlife/20190118/citrus-greening-affecting-dooryard-citrus-in-northeast-florida  There has been an outbreak of a "devastating citrus disease" affecting citrus trees in Northeast Florida. The disease is transferred from tree to tree by an insect called the Asian Citrus Psyllid. The bug feeds on sap from an infected tree and then transfers the disease when it eats from another tree. Once a tree is infected, the disease affects the tree in many ways, including discolored leaves, smaller fruit and fruit quantity, as well as lopsided fruit or smaller fruit that taste bitter. You can only diagnose the disease by lab testing a sample of the suspected tree. There is currently no cure or treatment for Citrus Greening.  The problems: The spread of Citrus Greening throughout NE Florida, with no known cure. The people: Anyone who has citrus trees or...

Assignment 4A- Forming an Opportunity Belief

My Belief and Prototypical Customer: I believe that there is an unmet need in regards to college student targeted diet or nutrition based programs. Anyone who is a college student could stand to benefit from this. I believe that a lot of college students become so consumed with their grades and social life when attending college, that they tend to put their health on the back burner. There is the dreaded "freshman 15" that a lot of students fear, and it is reasonable because the students are now on their own, with no one telling them what to and what not to eat. This also includes alcohol intake as well, " it is estimated that about 10 percent of college students drink more than fifteen alcoholic beverages per week, further impairing the quality of their diet." (https://www.diet.com/g/college-students-diets-of?get=college-students-diets-of). Now there are a lot of optional resources out their for students to take advantage of, especially in this day and age with h...

Assignment 3A - Your Entreprenuership Story

Image
A time in my life where I have been exposed to entrepreneurship was when I started a club in high school. I was in an academy at my high school that was focused on interior design and I wanted a place where we could use the skills we were being taught in the classroom and apply them to stuff not related to school. So I thought of making the Interior Design Club. I thought it would be easy, just get a teacher to sponsor it and get some friends to be the officers and it would be fun. I was right and wrong. It was fun, because everyone who joined had the shared ineterest in interior design but it was hard because there are so many things going on behind the scenes that just seem to happen. Like figuring out how much dues were, the t-shirt design we wanted, what every officers roles were, and what activities would we do to involve our members. it took a lot of planning and extra work I nor my friends did not expect but in the end we had a club of around 30 (mainly) girls who shared a passi...

Assignmnet 2A - Bug List

1 . People going into the 10 items or less line at Publix with more than 10 items. Why: People either dont realize that they have more than 10 items, or are usually pretty close to it or that they are trying to get out of the store fast and they dont care that it will hold up the line that it supposed to be for efficiency, for people who need to get a small amount of items in and out in a timely manner and not make them wait behind a long line of people buying their weekly groceries.  2. When people try to run a yellow light before it turns red. Why: They know that there is a delay between the traffic lights for safety reasons, for people like them trying to run the light, or that they dont care and would rather risk their safety and the safety of others in the attempt to shave a couple of minutes off their drive.  3. Drivers in the fast lane but drive under the speed limit. Why: They believe the speed limit is there for a reason and that no one should be going very f...
