Assignment 12A - Figuring out Buyer Behavior No. 1
Part 1- Segment
- The market segment I have chosen to target is enrolled university students currently living away from home for school. I have focused on this segment rather than just all college students in general because I found that students who live away from home have more anxiety and stress about the tasks my courses teach than students who live at home.
Part 2 - Interviewees
- First interviewee is a female college freshmen at UF living on campus
- Second interviewee is a female college senior living off campus
- Third interviewee is a male college sophomore living on campus
Part 3 - Interview Summaries
- The first thing I asked is if she was transitioning into college alright, and she said at first she was very nervous about the simple things like making sure she did her laundry right and didnt shrink any of her clothes or that she wouldnt buy too much at the grocery store and waste money. I asked what helped her overcome those concerns and she said that she watched a lot of youtube videos other college girls had posted about living away from home for the first time and she said that it was a relief that she wasnt alone in feeling that she didnt know everything. I then told her of my idea and she said she would have definatley signed up for my courses and that it would have relieved a lot of anxiety she had.
- The second interview with the senior started off by me asking if she remembered what was most difficult about starting as a freshmen at UF, was it the classes, social life, pressure? She said that it was the overhwelming feeling of responsibility she had when she started, since no one else was there to take care of you. I asked how she delt with it and she said she had a meal plan which helped a lot with the food aspect but with everything else she said she just called her parents, esp. her mom everytime she had encountered a new question or problem. I told her about my business proposal and she said that after her freshman year she prob wouldnt have taken it because she figured most of it out by herself anyway but as a new freshman she defiantley would have taken it.
- The last interview was with a male sophmore who also said that he had a hard time adjusting to living on his own but that it didnt give him a lot of anxiety and that he and his roomates just figured it out as they went and it all worked out fine. When I told him about the courses my business idea was proposing, he said that it would probally have been nice for some of the material it was offering but that he didnt want to take a class just for one or two lessons but recognizes the need exists and said that some of his friends could still benefit from a class like that.
Part 4 - Concusion
- I believe that there are a lot of students who are in this segment who recognize the need for classes like this, even if they dont feel that they would necessiarily benefit from them personally. This segment recognizes the anxiety students have at college and see that these courses could help relieve some of it, making the college experience more enjoyable overall.
